Setup WiFi on the Hitron Technologies CGN2-ROG

The Hitron Technologies CGN2-ROG router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

WiFi Terms

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Login To The Hitron Technologies CGN2-ROG

To get started configuring the Hitron Technologies CGN2-ROG WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Find the WiFi Settings on the Hitron Technologies CGN2-ROG

This guide begins on the Device Information page of the Hitron-Technologies CGN2-ROG router. Click the option on the left side of the page labeled Wireless. Then at the top of the page tick the tab labeled Setup.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Hitron Technologies CGN2-ROG

Now on the correct page, use the Channel drop down menu to choose the appropriate channel. We recommend using channel 1,6, or 11. To learn why you should use one of these three channels, read our guide titled WiFi Channels.

Below that is the WPS ON/OFF. We highly recommend turning this form of connection OFF. Use the drop down menu to choose DISABLE. Do not use WPS. Please read our guide titled What is WPS.

Next, skip down to the box labeled Primary SSID. This is the name you create to identify your network. It doesn't matter what you enter here but we recommend avoiding personal information. Learn more about the SSID by reading our guide titled Wireless Names.

Click the Apply button at the bottom of the page.

Then, at the top of the page tick the link titled Security.

Use the SSID drop down menu to choose the SSID you just created.

The second drop down menu is titled Security Mode. We recommend choosing WPA-Personal.

Next is the WPA Mode. Our recommendation is WPA2-PSK. To learn what the different options are, tick this link.

Below that is the Cipher Type. There are three choices here. Pick the option of AES.

The last thing that needs to be changed is the Pre-shared Key. This is the password you use to restrict access to your network. We advise you to use a minimum of 14-20 characters in this password. Don't forget to add at least one symbol, number, and capital letter also. To learn all about how to create a strong password, read our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

That's all there is to it, just click the button near the bottom of the page labeled Apply.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
