Wireless Password

An important part of securing your wireless network is choosing a strong password.

Wireless Channel

Picking a WiFi channel is not always a simple task. Be sure to read about WiFi channels before making the choice.

First, choose the Country in which this router is being used.

Second, use the drop down list titled Channel to choose the channel you want to use. We recommend using only channels 1,6 or 11. Want to know why? Read our WiFi Channels guide for an easy to understand explanation.

The next step is to find the box labeled Name (SSID). In this box enter the name you want to use to identify your personal network. This name should be unique. I recommend avoiding personal information like aimiesLAN or a router specific name like Huaweinetwork. More tips can be found in our guide all about wireless names.

If you scroll farther down this page you should see an option labeled Encryption Mode. For the strongest encryption choose WPA2-PSK. Find out what this is and what your other options are in the WEP vs. WPA guide.

Next, set the WPA Encryption to AES.

Finally set the WPA Pre-Shared Key. This is the network password and should be strong. We recommend using at least 14 characters. Learn more in our guide titled Choosing a Strong Password.

That's it, simply click the Apply button to save your changes.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
