This brings you to the page you see above. First, make sure your router is using the channels of 1,6, or 11. Use the Channel drop down menu to make any changes. To learn why you should be using these channels, read our guide titled WiFi Channels.

Now scroll down the page until you come to the box labeled Name (SSID). This is the name you give your local network so that you can identify it later on. While it doesn't matter what you enter here, we recommend avoiding personal information. To learn more about this subject, read our guide titled Wireless Names.

Next is the 802.11 Authentication. This is the security you will be using for your network. We strongly recommend using WPA2-PSK if available. If not, update your firmware to allow for it. To understand why this is important, read our guide titled WEP vs. WPA.

Next, set the WPA encryption to AES.

Finally, enter a strong WPA-PSK. This is the password you use to allow access to your network. We recommend using at least 14-20 characters in this password. Learn more about creating a strong password by reading our guide titled Choosing a Strong Password.

When you have finished, click the Apply button to save your changes.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
