Have you been trying to login to the Huawei E5220 router without success? It might be time to consider a reset. There is a lot of confusion between a reset and a reboot. In this guide when I use the term reset I do not mean a reboot. A reboot is a cycle in the power to the unit. A reset is where you take all the settings and return them to factory defaults. This means every single setting you have ever changed is erased and returned to factory defaults.

Warning: Resetting the Huawei E5220 router is a big step and should not be taken lightly. We strongly recommend making a list of all the settings you may of changed in the past. These include the:

  • The router's main username and password.
  • The WiFi SSID and password.
  • If this is a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP (Internet Service Provider) username and password. Call your ISP for these details.
  • If you have made any other changes to this device make sure to write them down in this list.

While the device is on take a straightened paperclip and press down on the reset button until all the indicator lights go off. This could take up to 10 seconds. If you don't hold the reset button down until all the indicator lights turn off you might end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Warning: Do not unplug or turn off the router during the reset process! Doing so could result in permanent damage to the router.

Remember a reset like the one you will be doing here is erasing every single setting you have ever changed in the history of this device. Please consider other methods of troubleshooting before you continue.
