Have you been trying to login to the Huawei HG658b router and been unable to do so? It might be time to consider a reset. A reset is not the same thing as a reboot. When you reboot a router you are cycling the power to the unit. No settings are changed. A reset is where all the settings are reverted back to factory defaults.

Warning: This means every setting you have ever changed is erased and returned to factory defaults. We highly recommend you create a list of all the settings that are changed as a result of the reset. These include:

  • The router's main username and password are erased and returned to factory defaults.
  • The WiFi information such as SSID and Internet password are also returned to factory defaults.
  • Is this a DSL router? If so you need to re-enter the Internet Service Provider (ISP) username and password. Call your local ISP for these details.
  • If you have made any other changes to your router you need to write these down as well.

While the router is on, take a straightened paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. This starts the reset process. If you don't hold the reset button down for long enough you end up only rebooting the router so be careful.

Remember a reset like this one is erasing every single setting you have ever changed on your device. We recommend trying other methods of troubleshooting before you continue.

Login to the Huawei HG658b

Following that you'll want to log into your router. This is done by using the factory default username and password. Not sure where you can find these? We have them listed for your use in our Login Guide.

Tip: If the defaults aren't logging you in it might be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

Now that you've successfully reset and logged into your router you should set a new password for it. This can be whatever you like, however keep in mind that a strong password is 14-20 characters in length and includes no personal information.
