How to Reset the Huawei HG8247H

This guide will show you how to properly reset the Huawei HG8247H router back to the original factory defaults. This should not be confused with a reboot. When I use the term reboot I am referring to a cycle in the power to the device. No settings are changed in a reboot. When I use the term reset I am referring to complete restore of all settings back to factory.

Warning: This reset erases every single setting you have ever changed in the history of this device. This includes the:

  • router's main username and password.
  • wireless SSID and password.
  • If this is a DSL router you need to re-enter the Internet Service Provider (ISP) username and password. Call your ISP for these details.
  • Port forwards or IP addresses are also erased.

Reset the Huawei HG8247H

Take a straightened paperclip and press down on the reset button for at least 10 seconds. If you don't hold this button down for the entire 10 seconds you will end up rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Please remember a reset like this one erases every single setting you have ever changed in the past. We strongly recommend trying other troubleshooting methods before you decide to reset the Huawei HG8247H router.

Login to the Huawei HG8247H

Once you've successfully reset your Huawei HG8247H router you'll want to log into it. This is accomplished by using the factory default username and password. Not sure where you can get these? We have them listed for your use in our Login Guide.

Tip: If the defaults aren't working for you it could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

Following that you'll want to set a new password for your router. This can be anything you like, however keep in mind that a strong password includes no personal information and is 14-20 characters in length. For more help be sure to take a look through our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.
