Have you been trying to login to the LevelOne WBR-5400 router without success? It might be time to consider a reset. A reset is not the same thing as a reboot. When you reboot this device you are simply cycling the power to the unit. When you reset the unit you are taking all the settings you have ever changed and erasing them. Then the reset will restore all the settings back to how they were from the factory.

Warning: Resetting the LevelOne WBR-5400 router is a big step and should not be taken lightly. We highly recommend you make a list of all the settings you have ever made in the past. These settings will include:

  • The router's main username and password.
  • The WiFi SSID, encryption and password.
  • If this is a DSL router you need to re-enter the Internet Service Provider (ISP) username and password. Call your ISP for these details.
  • Have you made any other changes to your router? Anything you have changed needs to be reconfigured after the reset process is complete.

Use a VPN Instead

Have you considered using a VPN instead of forwarding a port? For most users, a VPN is a much simpler and more secure choice than forwarding a port.

We use and recommend NordVPN because not only is it the fastest VPN, it includes a new feature called Meshnet that makes forwarding a port no longer necessary for most applications. With NordVPN Meshnet, you can connect to your devices from anywhere in the world, completely secure, over a highly encrypted VPN tunnel.

When shopping for a VPN, make sure that they meet the following criteria:

  • Your VPN provider should have a no-logs policy. This means that they do not keep any logs of any kind.
  • Make sure that your VPN provider has lots of exit nodes all around the world.
  • Check that your VPN will not affect your speed.
  • Verify that your VPN provider uses WireGuard as the underlying protocol.
  • Many people prefer a VPN provider that is not based in the United States.

This is the list of requirements that we used when we were shopping around for a VPN provider. There are lots of free, shady VPN providers out there that we looked at and dismissed.

Based in Panama, using diskless servers, and with over 6,100 servers in 61 countries, we can safely say that NordVPN satisfies all of these requirements.

NordVPN is the fastest VPN!

Once you've set up your NordVPN account on multiple computers and enabled Meshnet, you can seamlessly access all of your devices as if they were on the same network. You don't even have to log in to your router. It's very simple.

Every time you click on one of our affiliate links, such as NordVPN, we get a little kickback for introducing you to the service. Think of us as your VPN wingman.

While the router is on, take a straightened paperclip or other similar object and press down on the reset button for at least 5 seconds until the Status light blinks about 5 times. If you don't hold the reset button down for the full 5 seconds you might end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Caution: Do not unplug or turn off the router during this process! Doing so could cause permanent damage to the router.

Remember a reset like this one is going to erase all personal settings. I strongly recommend exhausting your other troubleshooting methods first.

Login to the Level One WBR 5400

After you've reset the LevelOne WBR-5400 router you should log into it. This is done by using the factory default username and password. Don't know where you can find these? We have them provided for your use in our Login Guide.

Tip: If the defaults aren't working for you it could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

Once you've successfully reset and logged into your router you'll want to set a new password for it. Keep in mind that this password will only protect your router settings, not your wireless network. Still, setting a strong password is always a good idea. For more help be sure to take a look through our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: Keep from losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and putting it on the underside of your router.
