Linksys has made home routers for more than twenty years. The line runs from the blue-and-black WRT54G through the E-series, the EA-series Smart Wi-Fi routers and the WRT AC routers, up to the Velop mesh systems, including the routers sold as "Linksys by Cisco" or "Cisco Linksys" from 2003 to 2013. These guides cover all of them. Most Linksys routers work the same way: you open a web browser, go to 192.168.1.1, sign in, and change your settings. The pages below show you how, and point out where the older and newer models differ.

Which Linksys Interface Do You Have?

Linksys has shipped three main styles of setup screen. Knowing which one you have makes every other guide easier to follow.

  • Classic web interface (WRT54G, WRT54GL, WRT160N, WRT310N, the E-series such as E1000, E1200, E2500 and E3200, and the business RV routers). It has blue tabs across the top: Setup, Wireless, Security, Access Restrictions, Applications & Gaming, Administration and Status. Every page has a Save Settings button at the bottom.
  • Linksys Smart Wi-Fi (EA-series such as EA6350, EA7500 and EA8300, the WRT1900AC, WRT3200ACM and WRT32X, and some E-series routers updated to Smart Wi-Fi firmware). It shows a dashboard of widgets and a Router Settings menu down the left: Connectivity, Troubleshooting, Wireless, Security and others.
  • Linksys app and Velop (Velop mesh nodes, and the MR, MX and Hydra routers). Setup happens in the Linksys app on your phone. A web interface is still there at http://myrouter.local or 192.168.1.1 for the settings the app doesn't show.

Default Linksys Login Details

Most Linksys routers use the IP address 192.168.1.1. The usual sign-in is the password admin, with the username either admin or left blank. Smart Wi-Fi and Velop routers ask you to create your own password during setup. If nobody did, the password is admin. Full lists by model are on the Linksys passwords and Linksys IP address pages.
