On this page I will be showing you how to properly reset the Linksys WAG300N router back to factory defaults. This is not the same thing as a reboot. When you reboot a device you are only cycling the power to the unit. When you reset a device you are taking all the settings and returning them all to factory defaults.

Warning: All your personal settings are lost. Make a list of any setting you have changed in the past including:

  • The router's main username and password.
  • The WiFi settings such as the SSID, encryption and password.
  • If this is a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP (Internet Service Provider) username and password. Call your ISP for these details.
  • Any other settings such as port forwarding or IP address changes.

Step One: Make sure the router is plugged in and switched on.

Step Two: Take a sharp object such a straightened paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds to start the reset process.

If you don't hold the reset button down long enough you might end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you intended.

Warning: DO NOT unplug or turn off the Linksys WAG300N router during the reset process. Doing so might cause permanent damage to the device.

Remember a reset like this one erases every single setting you have ever changed in the past. We strongly recommend trying other troubleshooting methods before you decide to reset.
