You can enter anything you like here but we recommend avoiding personal information. Learn more in our guide titled How to Change your Wireless Name.

Below that is the Wireless Channel. Make sure to use the channels of 1,6, or 11. To find out why you should only use these three channels, read our WiFi Channels Guide.

On this page click the drop down box labeled Security Mode and choose the option of WPA Pre-Shared Key. We recommend updating your firmware version to allow for WPA2 Pre-Shared Key. Learn more in our guide titled WEP vs. WPA.

You should then be asked for a Pre-Shared Key. This is the password you use to gain access to your network. We recommend using at least 14-20 characters with a combination of symbols, letters, and numbers. To learn more about this topic, read our Choosing a Strong Password.

That's it, just click the Save Settings option at the bottom of the page.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
