If you have been trying to login to the Linksys WAP54Gv2 router without success it might be time to consider a reset.

In this guide when I use the term reset I do not mean a reboot. When you reboot something you are simply cycling the power to the unit. When you reset something you take all the settings and return them all to factory defaults.

Warning: This means every single setting you have ever changed is erased and reverted back to how it was from the factory. It's a good idea to make a list of all the settings you have changed in the past. These settings include:

  • The router's main username and password are erased and reverted back to how they were from the factory.
  • The WiFi settings such as the network name and password are also erased and returned to factory defaults.
  • When you reset a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP or Internet Service Provider username and password. Don't know what these are? Call your local provider.
  • Any other settings like port forwards or IP address changes.

While the router is plugged in and on take a ball point pen or straightened paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. If you don't hold the reset button down long enough you end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Caution: DO NOT unplug or turn off the router during the reset process. Doing so can cause permanent damage to the device.

Remember a reset like this one is erasing every single setting you have ever changed in the past. I strongly recommend trying other troubleshooting methods before you continue.

Login to the Linksys WAP54Gv2

After the reset is complete you will have to login to your Linksys WAP54Gv2 router. To accomplish this you will need the default login information, which has been included in our Login Guide for the Linksys WAP54Gv2 router.

Tip: Can't login with the defaults? You might have not held down the reset button for long enough during the router reset.

Change Your Password

Next you should change the password for your router from the default as soon as possible. Default passwords are easy to guess and not very secure. Visit our Choosing a Strong Password guide to get started on securing your router.

Tip: Keep from losing your password by writing it down on some paper and attaching it to the bottom of the router.
