Have you tried to login to the Linksys WAP54Gv3 router without success? It might be time to consider a reset.

There is some confusion between a reset and a reboot. When you reboot you are only cycling the power to the unit. When you reset the router you are losing all your personal settings. A reset is a full factory restore of all settings.

Warning: Resetting a router is a big step and should not be taken lightly. I strongly recommend trying other troubleshooting methods before you decide to reset. If you still feel you need to reset the Linksys WAP54Gv3 router, I recommend making a list of all the possible settings that you have changed in the past. These include:

  • The router's main username and password.
  • The Wireless settings such as the network name and the Internet password.
  • If you need to reset a DSL router you also need to re-enter the Internet Service Provider (ISP) username and password. Call your service provider for these details.
  • Other settings you may have changed are port forwards, IP address changes, DNS servers, parental controls...

While the router is on take a sharp object and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. If you don't hold the reset button down for long enough you end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you intended.

Warning: DO NOT unplug or turn off the router during the reset process. Doing so could cause permanent damage to the router.

Remember a reset like this one erases every single setting you have ever changed in the past. I strongly recommend exhausting your other troubleshooting methods first.
