On this page I will show you how to properly reset the Linksys WET200 router back to factory defaults.

There is some confusion between a reset and a reboot. When you reboot a router you are cycling the power to the unit. When you reset the Linksys WET200 router you are taking all the settings and returning them to factory defaults. This erases every single setting you have ever changed in the past.

Warning: Resetting the Linksys WET200 router is a big step. I highly recommend trying other methods of troubleshooting before you decide to reset the router. It is also a good idea to make a list of all the possible settings you have changed in the past. I have started the list for you below.

  • The username and password used to access the router's interface pages.
  • The Wireless settings such as the SSID, encryption and Internet password.
  • Is this a DSL router? If so you need to re-enter the Internet Service Provider (ISP) username and password. These can be learned by calling your local service provider.
  • Have you forwarded any ports? Have you changed any IP addresses or DNS servers? These need to be in this list as well.

First, make sure the router is turned on. Then with a sharp object such as a straightened paperclip press and hold the reset button for at least 10 seconds. This starts the reset process. If you don't hold the reset button down for a minimum of 10 seconds you might end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it.

Caution: DO NOT unplug or turn off the Linksys WET200 router during the reset process. Doing so could result in permanent damage to the device.

Please understand that this reset erases all your personal data. I strongly recommend you try other methods of troubleshooting before you decide to reset.

Login to the Linksys WET200

Following the router reset you will need to login to your Linksys WET200 router by using the default login information. Not sure what this is? You can find all the information you need to login to your router in our Linksys WET200 Login Guide.

Tip: Defaults not working? You might have not held down the reset button for long enough during the router reset.

Change Your Password

The password for your router should be changed from the default as soon as possible. Try to make your new password 14-20 characters long and have it be unique. Visit our Choosing a Strong Password guide for more helpful password creation tips.

Tip: Want to avoid losing your password? Try writing it down on a slip of paper and attaching it to the bottom of the router.
