This is the setup page from your Linksys WET54G router.

Once on this new page, find the section labeled Wireless.

In this section, use the box labeled SSID to enter a new name for your network. It doesn't matter what you enter here but we recommend avoiding personal information. To learn more, read our Wireless Names Guide.

Below that is the Network Type. The choices are Infrastructure and Ad-Hoc. We recommend using Infrastructure.

If you have chosen Ad-Hoc you will need to select a Channel number from the drop down list. Make sure you choose 1,6, or 11. To learn why you should use one of these channels, check out our guide titled WiFi Channels.

The next part of the page is titled WEP. This is the only security this router offers. Do not use WEP, it is a weak form of security. We recommend updating your firmware version of this router to allow for WPA2. Learn more about this is our WEP vs. WPA guide.

When you are done, click the Apply button to save your changes.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
