Setup WiFi on the Netgear DGN2200

The Netgear DGN2200 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Wireless Name

Login To The Netgear DGN2200

This guide begins on the Router Status page of the Netgear DGN2200. To configure the WiFi click the option of Wireless Settings under Setup.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Netgear DGN2200

The first setting that needs to be changed is titled Name(SSID). Change this to a name of your choice. It doesn't matter what you enter here but we recommend avoiding personal information. If you want to learn more about this topic, read our Wireless Names Guide.

Secondly, set the Channel to either 1,6, or 11. To find out why these three channels are important read our WiFi Channels Guide.

Next, go to the Security Options and choose the appropriate security for your network. We highly recommend selecting the option of WPA2-PSK (AES). Find out why in our WEP vs. WPA Guide.

The last setting that needs your attention is the Passphrase. This is the password. Read our Choosing a Strong Password Guide for tips on creating a strong password.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
