You are then taken to a page like the one you see above.

The first setting can be found under the main heading of Wireless Settings. Enter a new name for your network in the Network Name (SSID) box. It really doesn't matter what you enter here but we strongly recommend that you don't use personal information. Check out our guide titled How to Change your Wireless Name for more information.

Now take a look at the Channel/Frequency. Be sure you are using channels 1,6, or 11. Find out why in our WiFi Channels Guide.

Under the Security Settings you may notice there is only one real option for security, WEP. Do not use WEP, it is extremely outdated. Read our WEP vs. WPA Guide for more information. We highly recommend that you upgrade your firmware to allow for WPA2-PSK which is the best option available.

That's it, just click Apply to save your changes.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
