Setup WiFi on the Netgear WNR3500

The Netgear WNR3500 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

WiFi Terms

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Your wireless network needs to have a name to uniquely identify it from other wireless networks. If you are not sure what this means we have a guide explaining what a wireless name is that you can read for more information.

Login To The Netgear WNR3500

Find the WiFi Settings on the Netgear WNR3500

This guide begins on the Basic Settings page of the Netgear WNR3500v2 router. To configure the WiFi settings you first must go to the left sidebar and click the option of Wireless Settings. This option is found under the main heading of Setup.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Netgear WNR3500

You are now on the correct page. First, find the box labeled Name(SSID) and enter the new name you have decided to use for your network. While it's not important what you enter here it would be a good idea to avoid personal information.

Now check the wireless Channel. Be sure you are using channels 1,6, or 11.

In the Security Options section pick the best security option for your network. We recommend selecting WPA2-PSK[AES].

Once you have done this you need to enter a Passphrase. This is the password you use to access your network. We recommend at least 14 characters here.

That's all there is to it, simply click the Apply button and you are finished.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
