Setup WiFi on the Netgear WPN824

The Netgear WPN824 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

WiFi Terms

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Login To The Netgear WPN824

To begin the wireless setup, start on the Basic Settings page of the Netgear WPN824v2. Click the option in the left sidebar labeled Wireless Settings. This is found under the main heading of Setup.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Netgear WPN824

On this new page, find the Name (SSID) and enter a new and unique name for your network. This can be anything you dream up but it's a good idea to avoid personal information.

The next setting that needs to be checked is titled Channel. Use this drop down list to choose from channels 1,6, and 11.

Now let's take a look at the Security Options. There are five different options here. Choose the one that works with your network the best, we recommend WPA2-PSK[AES].

The final setting is called the Passphrase. This is the password you use to access your network. Create a strong password of at least 14 characters and a minimum of one symbol, capital letter, and number mixed in.

Click the Apply button to save your changes before you exit.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
