This article covers how to reset the Nucom R5000UN router back to factory default settings. A router reset is a much bigger deal than a router reboot. Unplugging a router from the wall reboots it. A Router Reset completely erases the router and returns it to factory settings.
Warning: Before you continue, there are a few things you need to know. A router reset will affect the following settings:
- The router's username and password are reset to factory defaults.
- All WiFi settings are reset, including network name and password.
- All ISP settings will reset to default, and you may have to contact your ISP.
- All port forwards, firewall settings, and parental controls that you have configured will be removed.
A router reset should be considered the last resort when you cannot log in to your router any other way. Before you reset your router, you may want to try recovering your router password with our Router Password Finder.

Reset the Nucom R5000UN
On most routers you can find a small button on the back or the bottom labeled reset. A typical reset button looks like this:

Your reset button may look different, but usually they are very small. You may need a paper clip to push the reset button.
Keep an eye on the lights on the front of your router while holding the reset button down for about 10 seconds. Notice how the lights on the front of the router are blinking. When the lights do something different, the router is reset. It is harmless to hold the reset button too long.
Remember, this will erase everything you have previously done to this Nucom R5000UN router.
Be sure to only reset your router if you have tried everything else, such as running our Router Password Finder software, which can find your lost or forgotten router password for you.
Login to the Nucom R5000UN
Once the reset is complete, you need to login to your router using the default IP address, username, and password. Just follow our R5000UN Login Guide to find all of the information that you need.
Change Your Password
After logging in, you should really change your router's password for added security. Since factory passwords are well known, it's a huge security risk to leave your router set to the default. Our Choosing a Strong Password guide talks about choosing a strong password for your router.
Tip: Write your new password down on a note and tape it to the bottom of your router for future reference.
