Setup WiFi on the Sitecom WL-342

The Sitecom WL-342 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

WiFi Terms

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Wireless Name

Login To The Sitecom WL-342

To get started configuring the Sitecom WL-342 WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Let's begin this guide on the System Status page of the Sitecom WL-342v2 router. To setup the wireless options, click the choice at the top of the page labeled Wireless Settings. Then below that choose Basic.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Sitecom WL-342

On this new page, first locate the SSID1 and enter a new name for your network. It's not important what you enter here but stay away from personal information. To learn more read our Wireless Name Guide.

Next is the Channel. Use channels 1,6, or 11 for optimum reception. Learn why this is important in our WiFi Channels Guide.

That's all there is to do on this page, click the Apply button.

Back at the top of the page, click the Security tab.

The first setting on this new page is titled Encryption. From the drop-down menu choose WPA pre-shared key.

Below that a new setting appears titled WPA Type. Select the radio button titled WPA2 (AES). Find out what this means in our guide.

Next set the Pre-shared Key Type to Passphrase.

The last thing you need to enter is a Pre-shared Key. This is your internet password. Use at least 14 to 20 characters with some numbers, symbols, and capital letters mixed in for more strength. Find more ideas in our Password Guide.

You did it, select the Apply button before you exit and you're finished.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
