Let's start this wifi setup guide on the System Information page of the ZyXEL ZyWALL-Z-70-UTM. First, click the link in the dark blue, left, sidebar labeled WIRELESS. Under that, WiFi should be chosen. Now look at the top of the page and choose Wireless Card.

  • First, change the ESSID. This is the network name or ID that you use to find your network. It doesn't really matter what you enter here but we recommend avoiding personal information. Learn more in our Wireless Name Guide.
  • Now use the drop down list titled Channel ID to enter the channel you want to use. We recommend using 1, 6, or 11. Learn why in this WiFi Channels Guide.
  • The last setting is titled Security. The options available here are outdated. Take a look at this WEP vs. WPA guide. We recommend updating your firmware to allow for WPA2-PSK.
  • Click Apply once you are finished.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
