How to Reset the Asus AM604G

In this guide I will describe how to reset the Asus AM604G router. To some it is confusing the difference between resetting a router and rebooting a router. Rebooting a router is cycling the power by turning it off and back on again. Resetting the router is more serious because of it's potential consequences.

Tip: Resetting your router erases everything you have done to personalize it. All of the settings are reset to factory defaults. Some things to consider before continuing are:

  • This reset causes the router's username and password to reset to factory defaults.
  • The WiFi SSID, password, and security type are reset.
  • If you use DSL you will need to re-enter the ISP username and password. Call your Internet Service Provider for this information.
  • Every setting you changed is changed back to default. This could include IP addresses or even port forwards.

Reset the Asus AM604G

Once you have decided to reset your Asus AM604G router you need to begin by making sure the router is on. Do not unplug or turn off the router at any point during the reset as it could cause permanent damage to the device.

Next you need to locate the reset button. It is very small and located on the back side of the device. We have circled it in red in the image below.

Take a sharp object such as an unwound paperclip and press and hold the reset button for more than 4 seconds.

Don't forget that this will erase every setting you have changed in this router. Don't reset this router until you have exhausted other troubleshooting options.

Login to the Asus AM604G

Change Your Password

After logging into the Asus AM604G router you should change the default password. It's not real important what you enter here but if you are having troubles take a look at this Choosing a Strong Password guide.

Tip: Write this new password down on a piece of paper and attach it to the bottom of the router for next time you want to login to the interface.

The last setting that needs to be addressed is the WiFi security. Don't forget that this is reset as well. Sometimes router manufacturers like to leave a security mode open as the default.
