Configure your Computer to Have a Static IP Address

Port forwarding the Asus RT-N11 to your computer can be more reliable if you first configure a static IP address on your computer. We have instructions to setup a static IP address for Windows 7, Windows 8, and a variety of other devices on our Static IP Address Settings page.

Please note that while setting up a static IP address on your computer is optional, it is still a very good idea to go ahead and do it. In the long run it will make your port forward much more reliable.

Login To The Asus RT-N11

To get started forwarding a port you need to login to your Asus RT-N11 router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Forward a Port on the Asus RT-N11 router

Find The Port Forwarding Section of the Asus RT-N11

You begin on the Home page of the Asus RT-N11 router. To forward a port, click the option on the left side of the page labeled NAT Setting, then Virtual Server.

Configure the Port Forwarding section of your Asus RT-N11

Now to forward a port, make the following changes:

router nat enable disable
This is the nat page from your Asus RT-N11 router.

This takes you to a page like the one you see above.

First, Tick the Yes radio button next to Enable Virtual Server.

Next, in the Well-Known Applications drop down menu, choose the option of User Defined.

Then, enter the port you are forwarding in the boxes, Port Range, and Local Port.

In the Local IP box, enter the LAN IP Address of the computer you are forwarding this port to.

The next box is a drop down menu labeled Protocol. Use this to choose the type of protocol you want to use when forwarding this port.

Finally, in the Description box, enter the name of the program, or something that will help you remember why you forwarded this port.

When you have done all of this, click the Add button in the yellow bar close to the top of the page.

Click the Apply button farther down the page on the right, and you are finished. Congratulations!

Test if Your Ports are Open

Now that you have forwarded ports on the Asus RT-N11 you should test to see if your ports are forwarded correctly.
