In this guide I am going to talk about resetting the Belkin F5D8630-4Av1 router back to factory defaults. This is not the same thing as rebooting a router. Rebooting a router is simply turning it off and back on again to cycle the power. Resetting the router is taking all the settings and returning them to how they were from the factory.

Warning: Resetting this router can be problematic if you don't understand what settings have been changed. Making a list of all the settings you know will change is a great idea. Consider the following when creating this list:

  • The router's main username and password are reverted.
  • The WiFi SSID, password, and security method are all returned to factory settings.
  • The ISP username and password are erased if you use DSL.
  • Any other settings like port forwards or IP address changes.

Change Your Password

Next it is a very good idea to change this password immediately. Belkin doesn't tend to use default usernames or passwords which make it easy to access. Tip: Write this new password down somewhere you won't lose it. One good place is on the underside of your router.
