This guide covers how to reset the Belkin F5D8632-4v1 router back to factory defaults. There seems to be a lot of confusion between the terms reset and reboot. A reboot is like a restart. It is cycling the power to the device by turning it off and back on again. A factory reset is taking all the settings and returning them to factory defaults.

Warning: Resetting this router can cause problems if you don't know what a reset changes. It is safe to assume everything has changed. Create a list of settings you know will change. Consider the following when making this list.

  • The router's username and password are returned to factory settings.
  • The WiFi SSID, password, and security method are all returned to factory defaults.
  • The ISP username and password are erased if you own DSL. You will need to call your ISP for more information.
  • Any other settings such as port forwards are erased. You will need to re-enter these.

Take the end of an unwound paperclip to press and hold the reset button for about 10 seconds. Less time causes a reboot instead of a reset. It is also important to keep the device on during this reset. Do not unplug or turn off the router during this process as it could cause damage to the device.

Remember this erases everything you have done to this router. We strongly recommend trying other troubleshooting methods before continuing.
