In this guide I will show you how to reset the Belkin F5D8636-4v1 router back to factory defaults. There is some confusion between the terms of reset and reboot. To reboot a router you want to cycle the power to the device. This is usually done by turning it off and back on again. Resetting the router is taking all the settings and returning them to factory defaults.

Warning: Resetting this router can cause problems if you don't know what to expect from a reset. We suggest making a list of all the settings you know about that will be affected. Please consider the following when creating this list:

  • The router's username and password are reverted to factory settings.
  • The WiFi SSID, password, and security method are reverted to factory defaults.
  • If you use DSL you need to re-enter the ISP username and password. You will need to call your ISP for this information.
  • Any other settings like port forwards or IP address changes are erased.
