Wireless Password

An important part of securing your wireless network is choosing a strong password.

Wireless Channel

Picking a WiFi channel is not always a simple task. Be sure to read about WiFi channels before making the choice.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Belkin F7D8302

This is the wifi channel page from your Belkin F7D8302 router.

You are now on a page that looks like the one you see here. There are two columns. One is for 2.4GHz and the other is for 5GHz. If you are unsure of which to use, we recommend 2.4GHz. Most of us have some older devices that only run on 2.4GHz.

Use the Wireless Channel drop down list to choose the correct channel. There is only room in the spectrum for up to three channels that don't overlap. These channels are 1,6, and 11. For more information on this topic, check out our guide titled WiFi channels.

The other thing that needs to be changed on this page is the SSID. This is the name you give your network so you can identify it later. When creating a name, be sure to avoid using personal information here. For more on this topic, check out our guide titled Wireless names.

Now, click the Apply Changes button. Then on the left in the sidebar, click the link titled Security.

In the same column you chose on the last page, open up the drop down menu next to Security Mode and choose the option of WPA/WPA2-Personal (PSK). There are several choices in this list, and if you are interested in learning why you should choose this, check out our guide titled WEP vs. WPA.

Next is the Authentication. This is just narrowing down your choice you made above. The best option here is WPA2-PSK.

Lastly is the Pre-Shared Key (PSK). This is the password you use to access your network. It is also used in the encryption so it needs to be a strong password. We recommend using at least 20 characters. Don't use any personal information in it and don't use any words you can find in a dictionary. Do use some symbols, capital letters, and numbers. If you need more help in creating a strong and memorable password, check out our guide titled Choosing a strong password.

That's all there is, just don't forget to Apply Changes before you exit.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
