Configure your Computer to Have a Static IP Address

Port forwarding the Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 to your computer can be more reliable if you first configure a static IP address on your computer. We have instructions to setup a static IP address for Windows 7, Windows 8, and a variety of other devices on our Static IP Address Settings page.

Please note that while setting up a static IP address on your computer is optional, it is still a very good idea to go ahead and do it. In the long run it will make your port forward much more reliable.

Login To The Buffalo WHR-HP-G54

Forward a Port on the Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 router

Find The Port Forwarding Section of the Buffalo WHR-HP-G54

This guide begins on the System Status page of the Buffalo WHR-HP-G54-Tomato router. To forward a port, click the choice in the left sidebar labeled Port Forwarding, then Basic.

Configure the Port Forwarding section of your Buffalo WHR-HP-G54

Now to forward a port, make the following changes:

This directs you to the page you see above.

  • Tick the On box.
  • Use the Protocol drop down menu to choose the type of protocol you want to use to forward your ports.
  • Skip over to Ext. Ports. If you are forwarding a single port, enter that number in the Ext Ports box, and the Int Port box. If you are forwarding more than one port, enter them in this form: As a list, 22,23,80,100, or a range, 80-100, or a combination of both, 22,23,80-100.
  • Next is the Int Address. Enter the local IP Address of the computer you are forwarding these ports to.
  • In the Description box, enter the program name you are forwarding these ports for. This is for your future reference only.
  • Click the Add button
  • Tick Save in the lower right corner of the page.

Congratulations, you just forwarded a port!

Test if Your Ports are Open

Now that you have forwarded ports on the Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 you should test to see if your ports are forwarded correctly.
