This page will show you how to setup a port forward on the Cisco Linksys E1000 router.

Use a VPN Instead

Configure your Computer to Have a Static IP Address

Port forwarding the Cisco Linksys E1000 to your computer can be more reliable if you first configure a static IP address on your computer. We have instructions to setup a static IP address for Windows 7, Windows 8, and a variety of other devices on our Static IP Address Settings page.

Please note that while setting up a static IP address on your computer is optional, it is still a very good idea to go ahead and do it. In the long run it will make your port forward much more reliable.

Forward a Port on the Cisco Linksys E1000 router

Find The Port Forwarding Section of the Cisco Linksys E1000

router setup — This is the *setup* page from your Cisco Linksys E1000 router.

This guide begins on the Basic Setup page of the Cisco Linksys-E1000 router. To forward a port, click the option at the top of the page labeled Applications & Gaming.

At this point, there are two different options, depending on what you want to do. If you want to forward a single port, click the tab labeled Single Port Forwarding. If you want to forward a range of ports, click the tab titled Port Range Forwarding.

Configure the Port Forwarding section of your Cisco Linksys E1000

Now to forward a port, make the following changes:

When Forwarding a Single Port:

Find an empty row, and enter the name of the program you are forwarding this port for in the box labeled Application Name. It is not critical what you enter here, but we highly recommend entering something that helps you remember why you forwarded this port.
Enter that solitary port number in the External Port box, and again in the Internal Port box.
In the Protocol drop down menu, select the type of protocol you want to use when forwarding this port.
Enter the specific LAN IP address of the computer you are forwarding this port to in the box labeled To IP Address.
Place a check in the Enabled box.
Click the Save Settings button near the bottom of the page.

When Forwarding a Range of Ports:

In the first empty row of boxes, enter the name of the program in the box labeled Application Name. It is not crucial what you enter here, but something that reminds you of why you are doing this is a good idea.
Key in the lowest number in the range of ports you are forwarding in the box labeled Start~. Enter the highest number of the range in the box labeled End Port.
User the Protocol drop-down menu to choose the type of protocol or transport you want to use while forwarding these ports.
Enter the specific LAN IP address of the computer you are forwarding these ports to in the box titled To IP Address.
Put a checkmark in the box labeled Enabled.
Tick Save Settings at the bottom of the page.

Congratulations, you did it!

Test if Your Ports are Open

Now that you have forwarded ports on the Cisco Linksys E1000 you should test to see if your ports are forwarded correctly.
