Setup WiFi on the Cradlepoint MBR1200

The Cradlepoint MBR1200 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

WiFi Terms

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Encryption

Login To The Cradlepoint MBR1200

To get started configuring the Cradlepoint MBR1200 WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Find the WiFi Settings on the Cradlepoint MBR1200

The wireless setup guide for the Cradlepoint MBR1200 router starts on the DEVICE INFORMATION page. Begin configuring your wireless settings by clicking BASIC near the top of the page. From here, click Wireless (Wi-Fi).

Change the WiFi Settings on the Cradlepoint MBR1200

Do not click Add Wireless Device with WPS. This is an extremely insecure option and we highly recommend avoiding it. For more information read our What is WPS Guide.

Next, make sure the box labeled Enable Wireless Radio is checked.

Following that you'll need to set a Wireless Network Name. This can be whatever you like, however we strongly recommend that you avoid using any personal information. To learn more be sure to take a look at our Wireless Names Guide.

Next, uncheck the box labeled Enable Auto Channel Scan and set the Wireless Channel to either 1, 6, or 11. Why are these the best options? Read our WiFi Channels Guide.

Now open the drop down list marked Security Mode and choose WPA2-Only.

Make sure the WPA Mode is set to WPA2. This will provide you with the strongest security. For more information, check out our WEP vs. WPA Guide.

Now set the Cipher Type to AES.

Lastly you'll need to set a Pre-Shared Key. This will be your network password and can be anything you like. However, we know that a strong password can be difficult to come up with on your own, so we've created a guide to help you out.

Congratulations! You're finished. Just be sure to click Save Settings before closing the page.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
