On this page I show you how to reset the Cyberoam NetGenie back to original factory defaults. This is not the same as a reboot. Rebooting this router is simply a way of cycling the power to the device in order to solve most behavioral problems your router may be having. Resetting your router is taking all your settings and returning them to factory defaults.
Warning: Be careful when resetting this router as problems will occur if you don't understand what settings are changed. Please consider the following:
- The router's setup pages are reset to factory defaults.
- The Internet username and password are also reset to factory defaults.
- If you have a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP or Internet Service Provider's username and password in order to use the Internet again. Call your ISP for more details.
- If you have ever made any other changes to your router you need to re-enter these after the reset process is complete.

Use a VPN Instead
Have you considered using a VPN instead of forwarding a port? For most users, a VPN is a much simpler and more secure choice than forwarding a port.
We use and recommend NordVPN because not only is it the fastest VPN, it includes a new feature called Meshnet that makes forwarding a port no longer necessary for most applications. With NordVPN Meshnet, you can connect to your devices from anywhere in the world, completely secure, over a highly encrypted VPN tunnel.
When shopping for a VPN, make sure that they meet the following criteria:
- Your VPN provider should have a no-logs policy. This means that they do not keep any logs of any kind.
- Make sure that your VPN provider has lots of exit nodes all around the world.
- Check that your VPN will not affect your speed.
- Verify that your VPN provider uses WireGuard as the underlying protocol.
- Many people prefer a VPN provider that is not based in the United States.
This is the list of requirements that we used when we were shopping around for a VPN provider. There are lots of free, shady VPN providers out there that we looked at and dismissed.
Based in Panama, using diskless servers, and with over 6,100 servers in 61 countries, we can safely say that NordVPN satisfies all of these requirements.
Once you've set up your NordVPN account on multiple computers and enabled Meshnet, you can seamlessly access all of your devices as if they were on the same network. You don't even have to log in to your router. It's very simple.
Every time you click on one of our affiliate links, such as NordVPN, we get a little kickback for introducing you to the service. Think of us as your VPN wingman.
The first step in any reset is to know where the reset button is located. For the Cyberoam NetGenie router it is found on the back panel of the device. We have circled the location of the button in the image below.
Take the tip of an unfolded paperclip and press down on the button for about 10 seconds. This begins the reset process. If you don't hold the reset button down for long enough you end up simply rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.
Remember this reset is going to erase every personal change you have ever made to your router. We recommend trying other troubleshooting methods before you do a reset.
Login to the Cyberoam NetGenie
Now that you've reset the Cyberoam NetGenie router you'll need to log into it. This can be done using the default username and password. Find these in our Login Guide.
Tip: If the defaults aren't logging you in it may be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.
Change Your Password
After logging it you should change the default password. For help choosing a strong password visit our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.
Tip: To avoid losing new password try writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the bottom of your router.
Setup WiFi on the Cyberoam NetGenie
Finally it's a good idea to check on the Cyberoam NetGenie wireless settings. These settings include the network name, the Internet password, and the security method you use to protect your network. We suggest using WPA2 with a strong password to protect your local network. Check out our page labeled How to Setup WiFi on the Cyberoam NetGenie for more details.
