Now skip down to the Security drop down list. Choose the option of Password Protected (WPA2). To learn what this is and why it is the best option, read our WEP vs. WPA Guide.

After you have done this, the next box should read something like, WPA Key, or Password. Go ahead and create a strong password here. We recommend using at least 20 characters here. To learn how to create a strong password, read our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

The only thing you need to look at on this page is the Channel. Be sure you are on channel 1,6, or 11. These three channels are the most you can get out of the spectrum without overlap. Overlap causes a lot of interference, but completely sharing a channel does not. Refer to our WiFi Channels Guide for more information.

After you have done this, click the OK button.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
