On this page I will be showing you how to reset the Dlink DFL-700 firewall back to the original default settings. Before I do that it's important that I explain the difference between a reset and a reboot. A reboot is a way of cycling the power to the unit. This is done to solve minor problems you might have with this firewall. To reset something means to take all the settings and return every one of them back to factory defaults. This means any setting you have ever changed gets restored back to it's original factory defaults.

Warning: Resetting this firewall could cause additional problems if you don't know what settings are changed and what one are not. We recommend making a list of the settings you know will be changed. Consider this:

  • The firewall's main username and password are reverted back to factory settings.
  • If you have made any other changes such as vlans or Traffic management settings you will need to reconfigure these after the reset is complete.

Reset the Dlink DFL-700 Firewall

Begin by locating the reset button. This tiny little recessed button is located on the back panel of the device. See the image below:

This is the reset page from your Dlink DFL-700 Firewall router.

As you can see from the image above this reset button really tiny and recessed. Take a unfolded paperclip and press down on this button for over 15 seconds. Before you let go you should hear a total of three beeps. One and then two beeps close together. If you let go of the reset button early you will only end up rebooting this firewall instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Remember this reset will erase every single setting you have ever changed on this device. If you want to avoid this loss of information you should try other troubleshooting methods.

Login to the Dlink DFL-700 Firewall

Next you'll need to log into the Dlink DFL-700 firewall. Do this by using the factory default username and password. If you're not sure where to find these, don't worry. We have them waiting for you in our Login Guide.

Tip: Defaults not working? Try holding the reset button for longer.

Change Your Password

After you've logged in you should set a new password. This password protects the firewall settings. For help in doing so visit our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: To keep from losing your new password try writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the underside of your firewall.
