  1. Under Wireless Band: IEEE802.11g , find the SSID and replace the default setting for a new name of your choosing. The SSID is the Service Set IDentifier. This is the name you give your network so you can identify it later on. We advise you not to use personal information as it can be seen by your neighbors. Check out our Wireless Names Guide for more information.
  2. Use the Channel drop down menu to choose the channel you want to use to send and recieve your internet transmissions. There is only room in the spectrum for up to three that don't overlap one another, 1,6, and 11. Be sure you are using one of these channels. To learn more about this subject, read our WiFi Channels Guide.
  3. Click the Apply button.
  4. Highlight the tab at the top of the page labeled Advanced.
  5. Choose the link of Encryption in the left sidebar.

This firmware version only allows for WEP encryption. This is an old and very vulnerable form of security. We strongly recommend that you do not use WEP. Read our WEP vs. WPA Guide to learn why.

Our recommendation is to update your firmware to a version that allows for the Authentication type WPA2-PSK or WPA2-Personal.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
