You should now be on the page you see here. Find the section titled WIRELESS NETWORK SETTINGS and make sure the box is ticked that reads Enable Wireless.

The next thing you can change is the Wireless Network Name. This is also sometimes referred to as the SSID. This is the name you give your network so you can identify it later on. We recommend using no personal information in this name. Look at our guide titled Wireless Names for more information.

Now drop down to the Wireless Channel drop down list and find the channel you want to use. We recommend using channel 1,6, or 11. These three channels do not overlap one another. These three channels are the most you can get out of the spectrum without overlap. Look at our guide for a full explanation, WiFi Channels Guide.

Next, scroll down to the WIRELESS SECURITY MODE. In the Security Mode drop down list, choose WPA2 Only for the best security. Read our WEP vs. WPA Guide for more information.

A box should now appear called Authentication. Use this box to choose from TKIP or AES. For the best encryption, use AES.

The last thing you need to change is the Pre-Shared Key. Use this box to enter the password. This password is also used in the encryption technique so it needs to be strong, at least 20 characters. Don't use any personal information or words that can be found in a dictionary. Read our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

When you are finished, click the Save Settings button before you exit.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
