On this page I will be showing you how to properly reset the Dynalink RTA1046VW router back to factory defaults. This is not the same thing as a reboot. In this guide when I use the word reboot I am referring to a cycle in the power to the device. When I use the word reset I am referring to a complete factory restore of all settings.
Tip: This means every single setting you have ever changed in the past is erased and reverted back to factory defaults. We recommend making a list of all the settings you think you may of changed in the past. Below I have made a list of commonly changed settings.
- The router's main username and password.
- The Internet name and password.
- If you are resetting a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP or Internet Service Provider username and password. Call your ISP for these details.
- Other changes may need to be written down such as port forwards or IP address changes.

Reset the Dynalink RTA1046VW
If you turn your router over so you are looking at the back panel you will see the tiny reset button/pinhole. Take a look at the image below for reference. I have circled the reset button for you.
While the router is turned on, take a straightened paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. This begins the reset process. If you don't hold this button down for the entire time you might end up only rebooting the device instead of resetting it like you wanted.
Remember a reset like the one you are planning is going to erase every single setting you have ever changed. This is why we recommend trying other methods of troubleshooting first.
Login to the Dynalink RTA1046VW
Now that you've reset the Dynalink RTA1046VW router you'll need to log into it. This is accomplished by using the factory default username and password. Don't know where to find these? We have them listed for your use in our Login Guide.
Tip: If the defaults aren't working for you it could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.
Change Your Password
After resetting and logging into your router we recommend setting a new password for it. This can be anything you want it to be, however keep in mind that a strong password contains no personal information and is 14-20 characters in length. For more help take a look through our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.
Tip: Keep yourself from losing your new password by writing it on a note and attaching it to the underside of your router.
Setup WiFi on the Dynalink RTA1046VW
You should begin re-configuring the rest of the router. We recommend starting with the WiFi settings as these protect your local network. For a great guide on this subject read our How to Setup WiFi on the Dynalink RTA1046VW page.
