If you are having trouble with your router and cannot log in, you may need to reset the Edimax BR6228nC router back to it's original factory default settings.

There is a lot of confusion between the terms reset and reboot. What is the difference?

  • Reboot - When you reboot a router you simply restart or cycle the power to the unit.
  • Reset - When you reset a router you take all the settings and return them all to how they were from the factory. This means every setting you have ever changed is erased.

Warning: Is there no other way to fix your problem? If you have exhausted all possible troubleshooting methods and still cannot access the Edimax BR6228nC interface then you need to reset the router. Make a list of all settings you have changed in the past. Things to consider are:

  • The router's username and password.
  • The Internet name and password.
  • If this is a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP username and password. To find out what these are you need to call your local Internet Service Provider.
  • What else have you changed? Write everything you can think of down so you can reconfigure it after the reset is finished.

While the router is on press and hold the reset/WPS button for more than 10 seconds. This is important because if you don't you end up initiating WPS. What is WPS?

Don't forget that this reset is going to erase every single setting you have ever changed on this device. We strongly recommend trying other methods of accessing your router interface before you decide on a reset.

Login to the Edimax BR6228nC

Following that you'll need to log into your Edimax BR6228nC router. Do this by using the factory default username and password. Don't know where to find these? We have them listed for your use in our Login Guide.

Tip: If the defaults aren't logging you in it could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

After you've logged into your router we recommend setting a new password for it. Keep in mind that this password will only protect your router settings, not your wireless network. Still, setting a strong password is always a good idea. For more help be sure to check out our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.
