On this page I will show you how to reset the EE Bright Box 2 router back to its original factory defaults. There is a lot of confusion between the terms reset and reboot. What is the difference?

  • Reboot - When you reboot a router you cycle the power to the device. You unplug the router, wait about 20 seconds then plug it back in.
  • Reset - A reset is a complete factory restore of all settings. This means every single setting you have ever changed is erased and returned to factory defaults.

Warning: Resetting this router is a big step and should not be taken lightly. Things you must consider before continuing are:

  • The router's main username and password are erased and returned to factory defaults.
  • The Internet name and password are reverted back to how they were from the factory.
  • If this is a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP (Internet Service Provider) username and password. Call your ISP for these details.
  • Have you made any other changes to this device? If so write them down so you can reconfigure them later.

Take a straightened paperclip or pin and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds to reset the router. If you don't hold it down long enough you end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Remember a reset like this is erasing every single setting you have ever changed on the device. We strongly recommend trying other options before deciding to reset the EE Bright Box 2.

Login to the EE Bright Box 2

Now that you've successfully reset your EE Bright Box 2 router you'll need to log into it. This is accomplished by using the factory default username and password provided for your use in our Login Guide.

Tip: Defaults not working for you? It could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

After you've logged into your router we suggest setting a new password for it. This can be anything you want it to be, however keep in mind that a strong password is 14-20 characters in length and includes no password. For more help be sure to check out our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: Avoid losing your new password by writing it on a slip of paper and taping it to the bottom of your router.

Setup WiFi on the EE Bright Box 2

It is now time to begin the reconfiguration process. This should include the WiFi settings. We recommend following our How to Setup WiFi on the EE Bright Box 2 guide for easy to follow steps.
