Have you been trying to login to the Huawei HG658c router unsuccessfully? It may be time to consider a reset. A reset like this one is not the same thing as a reboot. When you reboot a router you cycle the power to the unit. When you reset the router you completely restore all settings back to factory defaults. This means any setting you ever changed is erased and returned to factory defaults.

Warning: Resetting the Huawei HG658c router is a big step and should not be underestimated. Some of the settings that will be changed during this reset are:

  • The router's main username and password are reverted back to factory defaults.
  • The wireless network name and password are also reverted back to factory defaults.
  • Is this a DSL router? If so you need to re-enter the Internet Service Provider (ISP) username and password in order to use the Internet again. Call your local Internet Provider for the details.
  • How about IP addresses or port forwards? If you have made any of these kind of changes they need to be written down as well.

Reset the Huawei HG658c

Look at the image below. I have circled the reset button for you in red.

router reset factory settings
This is the reset page from your Huawei HG658c router.

You need to reset the Huawei HG658c router while it is on. Take a straightened paperclip and press down on the button/pinhole for about 10 seconds. This starts the reset process. If you don't hold the reset button down for long enough you end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Don't forget that the reset erases every single setting you have ever changed on the router. We strongly recommend trying other methods of troubleshooting before you decide to continue.

Login to the Huawei HG658c

Once you've reset the Huawei HG658c router you'll want to log into it. This is accomplished by using the factory default username and password. These can be found in our Login Guide.

Tip: Defaults not logging you in? It could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

After you've successfully reset and logged into your router we suggest setting a new password for it. Keep in mind that this password will only protect your router settings, not your wireless network. Still, setting a strong password is always a good choice. For more help be sure to check out our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: Prevent yourself from losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the underside of your router.

Setup WiFi on the Huawei HG658c

It is now time to begin the reconfiguration process. This has to include the WiFi settings. Check out the Huawei HG658c WiFi Instructions.
