This particular page deals with the security for your internet connection. Near the top of the page are the words WPS Function. This page does not allow you to turn this option off. We highly recommend disabling the WPS if possible. WPS is an easy way in for someone wanting to use your local internet without your permission. Please read our guide titled What is WPS. The next page will allow you to turn this setting off.

Below that is the type of security you want to use for your network. For the most secure choice pick the option of WPA2 Only. If you want to know why this is the most secure option, read our guide titled WEP vs. WPA.

In the Authentication section, choose PSK. This stands for Pre-Shared Key. You will enter the password or PSK on the next page.

Now click Apply at the bottom of the page. Then in the left sidebar click WLAN.

Once on this new page, you have the option to turn off WPS. Use the WLAN button on the device drop down list to choose deactivated.

Next is the SSID. This is the name you create in order to identify your local network. It doesn't matter what you enter here but we suggest avoiding personal information for maximum security. To learn more about the SSID, read our guide titled How to Change your Wireless Name.

Below that is the Network Security. Click the radio dot labeled Passphrase (min 8 characters).

Now you need to enter the Passphrase below that. This is the PSK also called the password. This password is entered into any wireless device that will connect to your internet. For optimal security create a password that looks random of at least 20 characters. Include as many symbols, numbers, and capital letters as you can. We have more tips in creating a very strong password, just read our guide titled Choosing a Strong Password.

That's it, just click the Apply button and you are finished.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
