On this page I will be explaining to you how to reset the Kyocera KR-2 router back to factory defaults. This reset is not the same thing as a reboot. When you reboot a router you cycle the power to the device. This is often done as the first recourse when trying to fix behavioral problems. When you reset a router you take all the settings and return them all to factory defaults.

Warning: Resetting this router is a serious step and there are consequences. You lose all your personal settings. Make a list of all the settings you may of changed during the lifetime of this device. These settings include:

  • The router's main username and password.
  • The Internet name and password.
  • Is this a DSL router? If it is you need to re-enter the Internet Service Provider (ISP) username and password. Call your service provider for the details.
  • Have you made any other changes to this device? If so be sure to write them down so you can reconfigure them later.

While the router is on take a straightened paperclip and press down on the reset button for at least 10 seconds. This begins the reset process. If you don't hold the reset button down for over 10 seconds you run the risk of only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you intended.

Warning: Do not unplug or turn off the router during the reset process. Doing so could result in permanent damage to the router.

Please remember a reset is erasing every single setting you have ever changed in the history of the router. We strongly recommend trying other methods of troubleshooting before you continue.

Login to the Kyocera KR-2

After the reset is complete it's a good idea to login to the router. To do this you need to use the default username and password from the factory. We have these values in our Kyocera KR-2 Login Guide.

Tip: If the default values did not work it is possible you didn't press the reset button for long enough. Go ahead and try again.

Change Your Password

Now change the router's main password. Use our Choosing a Strong Password guide to help you.

Tip: One way to avoid losing this password is to write it down on a slip of paper and attach it to the bottom of the router.
