Setup WiFi on the Kyocera KR-2

The Kyocera KR-2 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Login To The Kyocera KR-2

Find the WiFi Settings on the Kyocera KR-2

Start on the DEVICE INFORMATION page of the Kyocera KR-2 router. To setup the WiFi settings, click the option at the top of the page labeled BASIC, then WIRELESS (WIFI) Settings.

This directs you to the page you see here. The top half of the page deals with WPS. We strongly advise you to avoid WPS due to it's security weaknesses. Read our guide titled What is WPS.

Scroll down to the section titled WIRELESS (WI-FI) NETWORK SETTINGS.

  • First, use the Wireless Network Name box to enter a new wireless name. This is the name you create in order to identify your internet connection. It doesn't matter what you enter here but it's a good idea to avoid personal information. Learn more about this by reading our guide titled How to Change your Wireless Name.
  • Now look for a setting titled Wireless Channel. Use this list to choose the appropriate channel for you. Make sure this is either channel 1,6, or 11. Learn more about this subject by reading our guide titled WiFi Channels.
  • The next section is titled Wireless (Wi-Fi) Security Mode. In the drop down list titled Security Mode choose the option of WPA-Personal.
  • You are then asked for the WPA Mode. The most secure option is WPA2 Only. Learn why this is the best option by reading our guide titled WEP vs. WPA.
  • Now you should be asked for the Cipher or Encryption. There will be three choices, TKIP, AES, or both. Select AES.
  • Finally you need to enter a Pre-Shared Key. This is the password you use to access your network. We recommend avoiding personal information in this password. Create a strong password of at least 14-20 characters. Learn more in our guide titled Choosing a Strong Password.
  • When you are finished, click the Save button.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
