On this page I will be showing you how to reset the Linksys EA2700 router back to the original factory defaults.
There is a lot of confusion between a reset and a reboot. In this guide when I use the word reboot I am referring to a cycle in the power to the Linksys EA2700 router. No settings are changed in a reboot. When I use the word reset I am referring to a complete factory restore of all settings. This means any setting you have changed in the past is erased and reverted back to how they were when the router left the factory.
Warning: A reset is a big step, we strongly recommend that you try other troubleshooting methods before you continue. It is also a good idea to make a list of all the possible settings you have changed in the past. These settings should include the:
- router's main username and password.
- WiFi information such as SSID, encryption and Internet password.
- DSL username and password if this is a DSL router. To find out what this username and password are you need to call your local Internet Service Provider.
- personal settings such as port forwards or IP address changes.

Reset the Linksys EA2700
The first step in a reset is to find the reset button on the outside of the device. I have found it for you and circled it in the image below.

While the Linksys EA2700 router is on take a straightened paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 5 to 15 seconds until the all the port lights on the back of the router flash at the same time. If you don't know what a port light is check out the image below.

If you don't hold the reset button down until all the port lights flash you might only reboot the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.
Warning: While the reset process is happening do not unplug or turn off the router! Doing so could cause permanent damage to the device.
Login to the Linksys EA2700
After the reset you will need to login to the router using the default login information. This information has been compiled for you in our Linksys EA2700 Login Guide.
Tip: If the defaults don't work, try resetting the router again but hold down the button for a little longer.
Change Your Password
Now that you have logged into the router you should change the password from the default to something more secure. Try to make a password that is original and 14-20 characters long. If you need any help making a secure password, check out our Choosing a Strong Password guide.
Tip: One way to avoid losing this password is to write it down on a slip of paper and tape it to the bottom of the Linksys EA2700 router for future reference.
Setup WiFi on the Linksys EA2700
Next you should consider configuring the wireless settings in order to secure your WiFi network. Our Linksys EA2700 WiFi Instructions will help you easily accomplish this.
