If you are having trouble accessing the Linksys WRT110 router's setup pages you might need to consider a reset. There is a lot of confusion between a reset like this and a reboot. Router manufacturers use the term reset interchangeably.

In this guide when I use the term reboot I am only referring to a cycle in the power to the unit. Absolutely no settings are changed. When I use the term reset I am referring to a full factory restore of all the settings. This means every single setting you have ever changed is erased.

Warning: All your personal data is lost. After serious consideration about whether you really need to reset the Linksys WRT110 router I recommend making a list of all the settings you have changed in the past. These settings might include:

  • The router's interface username and password. (This is the most likely reason you need to reset the Linksys WRT110 router.)
  • The WiFi information such as the SSID, encryption, and Internet password.
  • Are you resetting a DSL router? Then you need to re-enter the Internet Service Provider (ISP) username and password. If you don't know this information you can call your local ISP.
  • What other settings have you changed in the past? How about port forwards or IP addresses? Make sure to write these changed settings down as well. All personal data is erased.

Use a VPN Instead

Have you considered using a VPN instead of forwarding a port? For most users, a VPN is a much simpler and more secure choice than forwarding a port.

We use and recommend NordVPN because not only is it the fastest VPN, it includes a new feature called Meshnet that makes forwarding a port no longer necessary for most applications. With NordVPN Meshnet, you can connect to your devices from anywhere in the world, completely secure, over a highly encrypted VPN tunnel.

When shopping for a VPN, make sure that they meet the following criteria:

  • Your VPN provider should have a no-logs policy. This means that they do not keep any logs of any kind.
  • Make sure that your VPN provider has lots of exit nodes all around the world.
  • Check that your VPN will not affect your speed.
  • Verify that your VPN provider uses WireGuard as the underlying protocol.
  • Many people prefer a VPN provider that is not based in the United States.

This is the list of requirements that we used when we were shopping around for a VPN provider. There are lots of free, shady VPN providers out there that we looked at and dismissed.

Based in Panama, using diskless servers, and with over 6,100 servers in 61 countries, we can safely say that NordVPN satisfies all of these requirements.

NordVPN is the fastest VPN!

Once you've set up your NordVPN account on multiple computers and enabled Meshnet, you can seamlessly access all of your devices as if they were on the same network. You don't even have to log in to your router. It's very simple.

The very first step in any reset is to find the reset button. This reset button is found on the back panel of the Linksys WRT110 router. See the image below for a more exact location.

The second step in this router reset is to make sure the router is on. While the router remains on take a small sharp object such as a straightened paperclip and press down on the button for about 5 seconds. This starts the reset process which can sometimes take quite awhile to complete. If you don't hold the reset button down for the full amount of time you might end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Warning: Do not unplug or turn off the router during the reset process. Doing so can result in permanent damage to the unit.

Remember a reset like this one erases every single setting you have ever changed in the past. Please consider other options first.

Login to the Linksys WRT110

Now that the Linksys WRT110 router has been reset you will need to login to it. This can be done by using the default IP address, password, and username. Here at setuprouter.com we have found this information for you and included it in our Login Guide for the Linksys WRT110 router.

Tip: If you cannot login with the defaults then you might have accidentally rebooted the router instead of resetting it. Try resetting it again but hold down the reset button for a little longer this time.

Change Your Password

Once you successfully login to your router you should consider changing it to something more secure. Default passwords are easy to guess which makes them bad passwords. Try to make your new password unique. If you need help on coming up with a secure password visit our Choosing a Strong Password guide.

Tip: Want to avoid losing your password? Try writing it down on a slip of paper and attaching it to the underside of the router.
