This guide shows you how to reset your Netgear Nighthawk R7900P router. This is a much bigger deal than a router reboot. Rebooting a router is simply turning it off and back on again. This is very different from a reset, which erases a router completely and returns it to factory default settings.
Warning: Since this erases everything you have done to the router, there are some things you need to consider first. A router reset will affect the following settings:
- The router's username and password are reset to factory defaults.
- Your WiFi login, password, and network name are reset.
- Your ISP settings are reset, which means you will have to contact your ISP to get them back.
- All parental controls, firewall settings, and port forwards will be removed.
Resetting your router should be considered the last step. You should be sure that you have tried to at least recover your router password using our Router Password Finder before resorting to a router reset.

Usually there is a reset button located on the back or bottom of a router. What you are looking for is something that looks like this:
Your reset button may look different, but usually they are very small. If you find a pinhole on the back of the router then that may be the reset button. You will need a paper clip to push it.
Hold the reset button down for about 10 seconds while watching the lights on the front of your router. Notice how the lights on the front of the router are blinking. When the lights do something different, the router is reset. You can hold the button down as long as you like, it will not hurt anything.
Just don't forget that this will totally reset your Netgear Nighthawk R7900P router.

Login to the Netgear Nighthawk R7900P

Change Your Password

Tip: Write your new password down on a note and tape it to the bottom of your router for future reference.
