Setup WiFi on the Netgear WNR3500

The Netgear WNR3500 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Login To The Netgear WNR3500

To get started configuring the Netgear WNR3500 WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Find the WiFi Settings on the Netgear WNR3500

If you followed our login guide above then you should see this screen.

You begin on the Basic Settings page of the Netgear WNR3500 router. To configure the WiFi Settings, click the option on the left in the sidebar labeled Wireless Settings. This can be found under the main heading of Setup.

On this new page, find the box labeled Name(SSID) and enter an original name for your network. It's not that important what you enter here but we recommend avoiding personal information.

The next setting to take a look at is called the Channel. Here you just need to check to see if you are using channels 1,6, or 11.

Below that are the Security Options. There are several different choices here and we recommend using WPA2-PSK[AES].

Finally, place the cursor in the Passphrase box. Enter a new password here for your network. It's a good idea to create a strong password of at least 14-20 characters. Try and use numbers, symbols, and capital letters also.

You did it, just don't forget to click the Apply button before you exit.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
