Setup WiFi on the Sitecom WLM-5600

The Sitecom WLM-5600 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

WiFi Terms

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Wireless Name

Your wireless network needs to have a name to uniquely identify it from other wireless networks. If you are not sure what this means we have a guide explaining what a wireless name is that you can read for more information.

Encryption

Login To The Sitecom WLM-5600

To get started configuring the Sitecom WLM-5600 WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Find the WiFi Settings on the Sitecom WLM-5600

If you followed our login guide above then you should see this screen.

This wireless setup guide begins on the Status page of the Sitecom WLM-5600 router. To start off, select the 2.4G WiFi button at the top of the page. Then make sure you're in the tab labeled Wireless Settings.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Sitecom WLM-5600

You should now be on the page you see above.

First, in the drop down list labeled Channel, select either 1, 6, or 11. If you'd like to know why this is important, check out our guide.

Now you'll need to set your SSID. This is your network name. What you enter here isn't crucial, but we recommend avoiding any personal information. Enter you're desired network name into the box labeled SSID. To learn more about network names, click this link.

When you're happy with your settings, click the Save button.

Now click the Security Settings tab.

You should now be on the page you see above.

On this page you need to first open the drop down menu labeled Wireless SSID and select the SSID you just created.

In the drop down list marked Authentication Type, select the WPA2 only option. Then, make sure the WPA Mode option is set to Personal. And finally, make sure the Encryption is set to AES. Want to learn more? Check out our WEP vs. WPA Guide.

Just below that, in the box labeled Pre-Shared Key, you'll set your password. We recommend using between 14-20 characters. To learn more about why this is important, go to our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

When you're finished, make sure to click the Save button before exiting.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
