This takes you to the page you see here.

Start by making sure that the Channel is set to either 1, 6, or 11. Why is this important? Read our WiFi Channels Guide to find out.

Now, beneath the Multiple SSIDs Settings heading, make sure that the Use WPS option is set to No. To find out why this is bad, see our What is WPS Guide.

This brings up a new section.

Enter your desired SSID into the given box. This will be your network name and can be anything you like. However, we recommend avoiding any kind of personal information. To learn more, take a look at our Wireless Names Guide.

Following that, open the drop down list marked Authentication Type and choose WPA2 only. If this is not an option, we strongly suggest that you update your firmware. Why? Read our WEP vs. WPA Guide to find out.

Finally you'll need to set a Password. This may also be called Passphrase or Pre-Shared Key. We know a strong password can be difficult to think up on your own, so we've created a guide to help you out.

Congratulations! You're done. Just be sure to SAVE your changes before leaving the page.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
