This router offers you the choice of 2.4GHz or 5GHz. If you are unsure of which one to pick, choose 2.4GHz. It is much more common and most people have older devices that won't run on 5GHz.

First, you need to check the Wireless Channel. The channel needs to be on channel 1,6, or 11 if you are filling in the 2.4GHz column. These three channels are the most you can get out of the spectrum without overlap. For more on this subject check out our guide titled WiFi channels.

Next is the SSID. This is the name you give your wireless network so you can identify it. When creating a wireless name avoid using any personal information. We recommend reading our guide titled Wireless names.

Click the Apply Changes button when you are finished.

This is the wifi security page from your Belkin F7D8301 router.

On this next page, use the same column you used on the last page and use the drop down menu titled Security Mode to choose the type of security you want for your network. We recommend using WPA/WPA2-Personal (PSK). For more information on this topic, check out our guide titled WEP vs. WPA.

Next is the Authentication. This is narrowing your choices down even further. We recommend WPA2-PSK.

The last thing that needs to be change is the Pre-Shared Key (PSK). This is the password. It is also used in the encryption so it should be a strong password of at least 20 characters. We recommend avoiding personal information and words that can be found in a dictionary. Do use symbols, capital letters and numbers. For more information on this topic, check out our guide titled Choosing a strong password.

When you are finished, tick the Apply Changes button before you exit.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
