In this guide I will show you how to properly reset the Belkin F5D8235-4v3 router back to factory defaults. There is a lot of confusion between resetting a router and rebooting a router. To reboot a router means to restart it. This a lot of times will solve some minor problems. Resetting a router is taking all the settings and reverting them back to how they were from the factory.

Warning: Resetting this router can cause problems if you don't know what settings have been changed. We suggest making a list of all the settings you know will be changed by this reset. Consider the following:

  • The router's main username and password.
  • The ISP username and password, if you use DSL.
  • The WiFi information such as SSID, password, and security method.
  • Any other settings you have ever changed. This could include port forwards, IP address changes, or maybe firewall settings.

Reset the Belkin F5D8235-4

Now that you have decided to reset your router you need to know where the tiny recessed reset button is located. On most routers it can be found on the back panel of the device. We have found it for you and circled it in red in the image below.

Due to how small this button is you are going to need to take an unwound paperclip or pin to press and hold the reset button for about 10 seconds. A shorter amount of time will only reboot the router, not reset it. This reset needs to be done while the router is on. Trying to reset the router while it is off will do nothing.

Please be careful and try other troubleshooting methods before you resort to resetting the Belkin F5D8235-4v3 router.

Login to the Belkin F5D8235-4

Now that the reset process is complete you need to login using the right default username and password for that router. This information is usually found in the user manual or even on the device itself. We have found this information for you and included it in our Belkin F5D8235-4v3 Login Guide.

Change Your Password

After a successful login change that default password. Default passwords are extremely easy to crack, especially if the default password is nothing. If you need help coming up with a good password check out our Choosing a Strong Password guide for tips and ideas.

Tip: You don't want to lose this password or username as it may require another reset. To avoid this if you don't have a consistent place for passwords is to write it down on a post-it note and attach it to the bottom of the router for safe keeping.

Setup WiFi on the Belkin F5D8235-4v3

The last settings we will discuss in this guide are the WiFi settings. These include the SSID, password, and security method. A lot of router manufacturers like to leave the security disabled as the default. This is not a good choice for a home network. We strongly recommend you change your security type to WPA2-PSK.
